BLACK HISTORY - The Douglas Theatre

We are so lucky in Macon! Blessed with much wonderful Black culture and history all around us. One of the best is the Historic Douglass Theatre. Established in 1921 by Charles Henry Douglass, the first Black millionaire in Macon, it hosted early jazz and blues greats such as Otis Redding, Bessie Smith, James Brown, Ma Rainey and Little Richard and it also ran popular feature length films and serials.

Now you can hear more about Charles’ story at the newly renovated Douglass Theatre.

“His-Story in the Macon - The Charles Douglass Story” is coming up: and tells all about the hurdles Charles had to overcome on his road to success. The show is running from Feb 18-20.
