POWERUP PREP - BEHIND THE SCENES

PowerUP Prep Summer School has BLASTED OFF with BANG!

Students have been hard at work and learning lots too.

Last week we told you that we have many volunteers from Mount de Sales Academy helping our teachers.

But really, best of all - some of our new PowerUP Prep teachers are former SPCCS & MDS alumni. Say hello to two of the best:

Joellyn Mak, SPCCS Class of 2011 and MDS Class of 2017 and one of our SPC parishioners. Joellyn is working as a second grade teacher. Her class is having loads of fun as they work on STEM, Social & Emotional Learning, and Art activities with her each day. After graduating from MDS Joellyn attended Valdosta State University and earned her Bachelors in Art. Joellyn is an accomplished artist who favors working in watercolors. Last year Joellyn was a substitute teacher with Bibb County Board of Education and she is a FABULOUS addition to our summer program.

JaNyia Gibson reading to Kindergarten

JaNiya Gibson, SPCCS Class of 2015, MDS Class of 2019. JaNyia is teaching our own Sr. Kate’s Kindergarten class. FYI: Sr. Kate is super particular about her students - so you know JaNiya is great! After graduating MDS, JaNiya attended Fisk University where she just graduated this year with a Bachelors in Psychology. During her summers at MDS and Fisk she volunteered and worked at Camp Cougar - and now she’s teaching at PowerUp Prep. JaNiya recently got engaged to her longtime sweetheart with the nuptials expected in the summer of 2024. In the Fall she is starting her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Valdosta State University. What another WONDERFUL addition to our summer program.
